Huskies Drop Pair to Millersville

MILLERSVILLE--The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Millersville on Sunday by scores of 5-2 and 3-2 in nine innings.

In the opener, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the first when Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a two-out hit from Tyler Gansner (Lancaster/Lampeter-Strasburg). After Millersville went in front 2-1 with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, the Huskies tied the score in the sixth Gansner doubled and later scored on a double play ground ball off the bat of Matt Allen (DuBoistown/South Williamsport). The Marauders, though, scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead and go on to the win.

In the nightcap, the Huskies fell behind 2-0 when Millersville got single runs in the first and third innings. Bloomsburg tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth. Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/Wyalusing) started the rally by reaching on an error. He came around to score on Tressler's RBI double to make it 2-1. Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) then bunted for a base hit putting runners on the corners. Tressler then scored on a ground out by Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) tying the game at 2-2.

The score remained tied into the bottom of the ninth inning when Millersville's Derek Kline ended the game with a solo homer.

Bloomsburg falls to 8-23, 2-6 in the PSAC East, while Millersville improves to 10-20, 4-4 in the PSAC East. The Huskies host Columbia Union on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
